Are you thinking of selling or trading in that old car, boat, or RV? Why not donate it instead? The SPD Foundation has partnered with Car Program LLC ("Donate-a-Car") to provide an easy-to-use, tax-deductible process to donate your vehicle.
As a charitable contribution, your vehicle donation can make a big difference to the children and families who count on us to make a difference in their lives.

2. Is my donation tax deductible?
A: Yes. We are classified with the IRS as a Colorado Public Charity. Vehicle/Vessel donations made from this web site are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. However, individual tax situations vary so please check with a tax professional to determine what if any tax benefit you may receive from a tax deductible donation.
3. What do I need to donate my vehicle?
A: Donate-a-Car would like the title to the vehicle, but if you do not have it please call them anyway. It is possible that other arrangements may be made. Please call them toll-free at 1-800-513-6560 seven days a week, but let them know that your donation should be credited to the SPD Foundation. Please do not complete or sign your title before hearing from Donate-a-Car. Mistakes on your title will cost you time and money. Donate-a-Car will provide you instructions on properly signing over your title.
4. My car hasn't run in years. Can I still donate it?
A: Yes, Donate-a-Car is able to accept most vehicles running or not (exceptions include older vehicles whose value would not offset the cost of towing).
5. Can you pick up vehicles in all 50 states?
A: Yes, Donate-a-Car is able to pick up accepted vehicles in the continental U.S. and Hawaii. Currently, Donate-a-Car is unable to accept online donation submissions from Michigan residents. Michigan residents need to contact SPD Foundation directly to pledge their donation.
6. How is the value of my car determined?
A: The IRS allows you, the taxpayer, to claim a tax deduction of (a) the value of your vehicle up to $500 or (b) if we sell the vehicle for more than $500 we will mail you a completed IRS tax form 1098-C with that value for your tax purposes.

8. How long will it take to pick up my car?
A: You will at least be contacted within three or four business days at the most. If you need your car picked up sooner, please let Donate-a-Car know as they may be able to make those arrangements as well. Please don't forget to let them know that your donation should be credited to the SPD Foundation.
10. When are the donation receipts prepared?
A: If Donate-a-Car is able to accept your donation, they will provide you with a donation receipt for the date you contact us--not the day they pick up the vehicle. Meaning, all calls on or before December 31 (that they are able to accept) will receive donation receipts dated for that current year, which is good for that tax year and tax laws.
11. What if my vehicle location is different than my home address?
A: It is not a problem at all, just specify that information, along with the location address of the vehicle on the donation form in the "Special Instructions or Other Comments" section.
