Sensory Integration’s Long Road to Legitimacy
E.J. Brown
Just a quick note from us to point you in the direction of another great article about the current state of Sensory Processing Disorder’s recognition! E.J. Brown wrote this article, hitting the nail on the head regarding where Sensory Processing Disorder and the therapies of the Foundation stand in relation to DSM classification and developing recognition by physicians.
Brown brings together some really good points which have been popping up throughout relevant media. Not only is Sensory Processing Disorder in a good position for entry into the DSM, but has garnered more attention than ever before. Citing work within the Foundation and research in places like Massachusetts General Hospital, Brown shows that SPD symptoms and therapies are becoming much more accepted in circles in which they were previously pushed to the side, most notably, mainstream pediatrics.
“This past summer researchers were happily surprised to find physicians testifying to both the existence of [SPD] in their young patients and the effectiveness of OT treatment techniques.”
I have included the link above and hope everyone takes a moment to read this article. Watch this space for more bright news about national and international awareness of Sensory Processing Disorder.
