On Monday, Kim Leserman and her family were featured in a story on the front page of the “Life” section of USA Today. Dr. Lucy Miller was interviewed and our fight for acceptance into the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5) was highlighted. This is huge for the foundation! Since then, there has been an onslaught of newspaper articles and blogging about Sensory Processing Disorder and the DSM Campaign.
You can find the article here: “Diagnosis in psychiatry’s ‘DSM-5′ has power to change lives.”
Thank you to all of you who have been commenting on the DSM and getting the word out. Please keep up the good work! Here is the link to the information page and comment page! http://spdfoundation.net/dsmv.html
Keep up the good commenting! It’s really making a difference.

I am so thrilled that there is some headway being made in getting SPD into the DSM. I had never heard of SPD until about October 2009 when my son’s teacher and intervention specialist at school informed me they believed he had it. Since October I have been on the long road of learning and understanding the disorder my self and trying to get the right diagnosis and treatment. I call it a blessing in disguise that my son has been recently been identified as having a speech problem and therefor finally qualified for an I.E.P. If not for the speech I may never have been able to get the I.E.P. and my son would only be able to get limited services. I want this for all the children that may not be able to get the much needed PT and OT services in school because it is not in the DSM.
